Is US police on steroids?

What is the reason for numerous incidents of excessive police force and brutality? Is it possible that the pressure many US law enforcement professionals are living with may be forcing them to use steroid drugs to keep up with the heavy standards required and the sheer fear for self preservation on the mean streets of America?
